Die S.E.R.-Stiftungen Deutschland, Schweiz und Niederlande wählten den Friedensaktivist Reuven Moskovitz als Empfänger des Global Mediation Awards wegen seines über 40-jährigen Einsatzes für Toleranz und Verständigung als Weg zum Frieden und ehrten ihn mit diesem Preis für sein Lebenswerk. Er ist Preisträger des Mount Zion Award 2001 und Preisträger des internationalen Aachener Friedenspreises 2003. Sein Buch „Der lange Weg zum Frieden“ ist in der vierten Auflage erschienen.

Die Vereinten Nationen haben das Jahr 2009 zum Internationalen Jahr der Aussöhnung ausgerufen und weltweit Aktivitäten eingefordert, die auf allen Ebenen des gemeinsamen Lebens zu Aussöhnungsprozessen beitragen: auf der privaten, gesellschaftlichen und politischen Ebene. Download

Um das Internationale Jahr der Aussöhnung allen bei DPI akkreditierten Nichtregierungsorganisationen vorzustellen, wurde die S.E.R. Stiftung eingeladen, eine Sprecherin zur Veranstaltung zu entsenden.

In the year 2000 the S.E.R. Foundation drew up a resolution to promote peace in Israel/Palestine and invoked the United Nations to declare the sacred sites in Jerusalem to be the spiritual heritage of the entire human race and to administer and supervise them.

In 2004 the S.E.R Foundations submitted a resolution to the United Nations for the introduction of a worldwide UN Reconciliation Day. At the following 57. DPI/NGO UN Conference in New York “Global Reconciliation” was presented as an activating principle to achieve the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations.

The involvement of civil society into solution processes which challenge the world community has increasingly gained importance within the UN. To concentrate the activities of the NGOs, which now may act within sections adhered and managed by several UN departments, and in order to strengthen an autonomous, joint representation of interests, the Foundations submitted a draft of a resolution in 2007, calling for the creation of an independent department of NGOs at the UN.
Hereby, co-equality as well as the vital necessity for a representation of the world’s civil society beside world´s governments would be elucidated.

Within the framework of their commitment to reconciliation and peace, S.E.R. Foundations organized a reconciliation week annually between 2005-2008, inviting organizations and institutions worldwide to participate.

In 2006 the General Assembly of the United Nations explicitly stated that reconciliation processes are particularly necessary and urgent in countries and regions of the world having suffered, or which are suffering, from situations of conflict that have affected and divided societies in their various internal, national and international facets and therefore decided to proclaim 2009 the International Year of Reconciliation (A/61/L.22).

As the S.E.R. Foundation’s activities focus on reconciliation, the Foundation initiated an “Action Plan” for the Reconciliation year 2009. In accordance with the wide understanding of reconciliation, the Action Plan of the Foundation encompassed various fields of life and society; Action Plan 2009

Reconciliation Award 2009

In August 2010 in a public event, the Foundation awarded the reconciliation projects of 12 organisations from 8 countries with a certificate and a prize as model peace makers. Guest of honour and speaker was Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, Mr. Wilfried Lemke. The prizes were donated by the partner organisation Global Balance.

Further Reconciliation Years

Since the International Reconciliation Year 2009, the S.E.R. Foundation perpetuates the Reconciliation Year by an annual invitation to submit current reconciliation projects.
